KYEM activates Emergency Operations Center at 3pmCT/4pmET POSSIBLE FLOODING, SOME AREAS: Kentucky Emergency Manager Center will monitor for heavy rain and possible flooding Click on headline for complete story By Monica L. French News from Kentucky Emergency Management Center FRANKFORT, KY - (Thu 15 Feb 2018) - Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) will activate its State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) today at 3pmCT/4pmET, in support of forecasted heavy rainfall and potential flooding conditions throughout Kentucky during the next several days. The SEOC will activate at a Level 4, which consists of KYEM personnel monitoring the weather system and damage reports from impacted counties. After heavy rainfall hit southeastern Kentucky last weekend, KYEM and local, state and private sector partners are on standby for another potentially heavy rainfall which could cause new and additional flooding. "We urge citizens across the Commonwealth to stay tuned to their local media and heed weather warnings over the next several days. With many areas already saturated with water, these additional rainfall events could cause flash flooding in low lying areas and creeks with little or no warning" said Michael Dossett, director of KYEM. "Be prepared, have a plan, know alternate road routes and the safest way out of your area if you are vulnerable to flash flooding or live in flood prone areas." Remember - a mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. Never walk, drive into or cross water covered or flooded roads. TURN AROUND - DON'T DROWN! For more information about KYEM, visit www.kyem.ky.gov. This story was posted on 2018-02-15 14:40:47
