Human trafficking in KY: Louisville woman faces allegations

Alleged victims both under the age of 18

FRANKFORT, KY (Wed 14 Feb 2018) - Attorney General Andy Beshear today announced the arrest of a 22-year-old Louisville woman on human trafficking charges as part of a joint investigation with Louisville Metro Police Department.



Abigail Varney was arrested February 13, 2018 and charged with two counts of human trafficking with both victims under 18 years of age; two counts of possession or viewing of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor; two counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor; two counts of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor; and drug paraphernalia.

Beshear said his office conducted the joint investigation with LMPD's Special Victim's Unit, serving a search warrant with the assistance of LMPD's SWAT Unit and its 9th Mobile Unit at a Louisville home February 13, 2018.

Beshear said the investigation is active and ongoing. A charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Varney is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections with a $25,000 bond.

A core mission of Beshear's is to bring justice to victims of rape, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Beshear created the Office of Child Abuse and Human Trafficking Prevention when he entered office in 2016.

The office, along with the AG's Department of Criminal Investigations, handles human trafficking cases, and assists local law enforcement and prosecutors on human trafficking complaints.
