Verene Scales Wheat, Russell Co., KY (1927-2018)

She was born September 6, 1927 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus & Letha Foley Scales. She was a homemaker. Family members who passed before her include her husband, Johnnie Wheat, and ten siblings; Blisco Scales, Captola Withers, Bernis Scales Lenola McFarland, Ralph Scales, Garnet Scales, Inez Abbott, Garland Scales, Irene Bryant, Eldred Scales. Verene Wheat, 90, of Fairfield, Ohio (formerly of Russell County), died Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Mercy Fairfield Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio.

Funeral service will be 12noonCT Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY. Visitation will be 10amCT until time for the service. Interment will follow in the New Friendship Cemetery.


She was born September 6, 1927 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of to the late Christopher Columbus & Letha Foley Scales. She died Tuesday, January 16, 2018, in Fairfield, Ohio, at the age of 90 years, four months, and 10 days.

Verene was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Wheat; te siblings; Blisco Scales, Captola Withers, Bernis Scales, Lenola McFarland, Ralph Scales, Garnet Scales, Inez Abbott, Garland Scales, Irene Bryant, and Eldred Scales

Survivors are:
  • Two children: Libby Meirose, Cincinnati. Ohio and Margie Cox, Blanchester, Ohio

  • Five grandsons: James Cox, Mark Cox, Rob Meirose, John Meirose, Scott Meirose

  • Twelve great grandchildren

  • One great great grandchild

  • One sister: Gerldine Twyford, Russell Springs
