Mr. Sherman Burton of Columbia, KY. went on to his eternal rest Friday, January 12, 2018 at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY, with his children at his side.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 4pmCT, with Celebration of his life gathering on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 1pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Pastor Eric Gilbert officiating. Interment will be at the Bearwallow Cemetery, 6030 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY.



He was born September 21, 1938 to the union of James William ("Willie J") & Nancy Jane McQueary Burton in the Christine Community of Adair County. Sherman was a respected, local businessman, working with his son for more than thirty years. He was well known for his friendliness, fairness, wonderful sense of humor and readiness to be helpful to everyone. He enjoyed cooking, canning, fishing and spending time with family & friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers: Woodruff, Vertis, Marvin, Carl and Wallace Burton; and four sisters: Hattie Hollins, Arleter Burton, Veneitta Burton, and Gladys Powers; and one great granddaughter: Haili Wall; and one grand daughter-in-law: Wendy Neat. Sherman Burton is survived by:
  • His three loving daughters: Vicki (Terry) Kidd of Scottsville, KY; Janet (Donnie) Wall of Columbia, KY; Marlene (Bob) Ragle of Russell Springs, KY

  • One son: Sherman Wayne (Martha Anne) Burton of Columbia, KY

  • Nine grandchildren: Lisa (Mike) Akin Of Bowling Green, KY, Eric Neat of Cedar Park, TX; Chris (Cheryl) Wall, Mike (Jennifer) Wall, Anthony (Tonya) Wall, Brittany (Lucas) Bearden, all of Columbia, KY; Tonya (Louis) Stargel of Russell Springs, KY; McKenzie Hobbs and Spencer Cole of Columbia, KY

  • Twenty-one great-grandchildren

  • Two sisters: Pinkie Lee, Cincinnati, Ohio, and his twin, Shirley Bryant, Columbia, KY

  • As well as numerous other relatives and friends
In lieu of flowers, family requests donation be made to Kosair Shriners Children's Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or to the Bearwallow Cemetery Maintenance Fund may be left at the funeral home Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, in charge of funeral arrangements
