Elsie Marie Gaskins, Adair County/Russell County, KY native (1922-2018)

She was the matriarch of a respected Northeast Adair County, KY family. She attended New Hope Separate Baptist Church and the Adair Friends and Neighbors Adult Daycare. She was born in Jamestown, KY, was a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death in Russell Springs, KY. Her final resting place will be in New Hope Cemetery in Adair County, KY.

Elsie Marie Gaskins, 95, of Columbia, KY, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 1:35pmCT, at Russell County Hospital.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, 131 New Hope Cemetery Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Thursday, January 11, 2018.



Elsie Marie Gaskins, Adair County/Russell County, KY native (1922-2018)


She was born in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, on February 23, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Vadie & Mary Magdalene Wooldridge Guffey. She died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Walter Ray Gaskins, three sons; Ethan, Solomon & Emmanuel Gaskins and one daughter; Katherine Gaskins.

She attended New Hope Separate Baptist Church and the Adair Friends and Neighbors Adult Daycare.

Survivors include:
  • One daughter: Ruth Pike of Columbia, KY

  • Five sons: Lemuel Gaskins & his wife Linda of Columbia, KY; Jesse Gaskins of Columbia, KY; Amos Gaskins & his wife Carolyn of Columbia, KY; David Gaskins of Edmonton, KY; and Samuel Gaskins & his wife Twalla of Knifley, KY

  • Fourteen grandchildren

  • Thirteen great-grandchildren
