Rebecca Jean Hogue Lay, Casey Co., KY (1940-2017)

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Separate Baptist Church. Rebecca was a housewife and a former employee of Lee's Famous Recipe. She enjoyed cooking, reading and caring for her family. She was the matriarch of a stalwart, close knit Casey County, KY family. She was a native of Casey County, KY, the daughter of the late Charlie & Mary Etta Campbell Hogue and the widow of John Lay. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Rebecca Jean Hogue Lay, 77 of Liberty, KY passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, KY.

Funeral services are at 10amCT/11amET Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Richie Curtis and Bro. Steve Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Caney Fork Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Monday, January 1, 2018, at the funeral home.

Born January 8, 1940 in Casey County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Charlie & Mary Etta Campbell Hogue. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Separate Baptist Church. Rebecca was a housewife and a former employee of Lee's Famous Recipe. She enjoyed cooking, reading and caring for her family. Survivors include:
  • One son: Charles (fiance, Kathy Goode) Lay of Liberty, KY

  • One daughter: Jyll (David) Shoemaker-Lay of Liberty, KY

  • One sister: Delores Wilcher of Liberty, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Charlie, Adam, Bryan and MaKayla

  • One great-grandson: Eli

  • And a host of nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents, Rebecca is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Lay, who passed away February 12, 2014; one daughter, Loretta Lay Harris; three brothers, Charlie Hogue Jr., J.W. Hogue and Marvin Hogue; and one sister, Mary Helen Wethington.
