Shila Lee Calhoun Stearman, Green Co., KY native (1922-2017)

Born to the late William Calhoun and Lena Underwood Calhoun, on Wednesday, October 11, 1922 in Taylor County Kentucky, she was a homemaker in her lifetime and had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Brush Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Shila Lee Calhoun Stearman of Louisville, KY, formerly of Summersville, KY, departed this life on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville. She was 95 years, one month and 28 days of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Shila Lee Calhoun Stearman were conducted at 11amCT Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in the Bloyd-Perkins Cemetery. Bro. Dannie Nelson officiating. Visitation was from 4pmCT until 8pm, Monday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral and after 7amCT, Tuesday until time of the funeral service. Pallbearers were: Andrew Posey, Suede Posey, Joe Mays, Pete Bell, Jonathan Hale, and Elvis Posey.

She was the daughter of the late William Calhoun and Lena Underwood Calhoun, born on Wednesday, October 11, 1922 in Taylor County Kentucky.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Brush Creek Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She united in marriage to Charlie Elmer Stearman on August 30, 1941 who preceded her in death on February 12, 2003.

Survivors include
  • A daughter: Joyce Posey of Louisville;

  • Four grandchildren: Elvis Dean Posey, Charles Lewis Posey, Melanie Cruse all of Summersville, and Stephanie Posey of Mt. Sherman;

  • Four great-grandchildren: Andrew Posey, Suede Posey, Cynthia Hale, and Jennifer Mays;

  • Six great-great-grandchildren: Donovan Posey, Hunter Mays, Landon Mays, Payton Mays, Ruger Mays, and Cash Posey;

  • A host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Stearman was also preceded in death by two sisters: Anna Stearman and Katherine Milby; two brothers: Coy Calhoun and Milton Calhoun; one great-grandchild: Keisha M. Posey; and one great-great-grandchild: Aubrey Hale.

Memorials are suggested to the Bloyd-Perkins Cemetery Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
