Christmas in Columbia 2017 Parade winners and many photos

Winners in the 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade, "A Bluegrass Christmas," are:
Floats - Adair County: First place, Bloomington Chapel Church; second place, Millerfield Brethren in Christ; and third place, Damon's CTA.
Non-Floats - Adair County: First place, Jackie Burton; second place, Kathy Keith; third place, Campbell's Concessions.
Floats -- Out of County: First place, Timmy Hubbard.

Zayne Grant enjoyed the parade with his grandparents

Young Zayne Grant, son of Amanda and Lincoln Grant, came to the 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade with his "Nana" Sandi Greer, and they positioned themselves at the corner where Zayne's grandfather "Dida", CPD Officer Charles Greer, was on duty directing traffic during the annual event. Zayne and all the children along the parade route from the industrial park to the public square enjoyed the lights, sirens and candy shared from the floats.

2017 Christmas in Columbia - Bloomington Chapel 1st Place Adair Float

The Bloomington Chapel Church Float was the First Place Winner of the Adair County Floats in the 2017 Christmas in Columbia Parade. The Pastor, Bro. Ralph Foster dressed in white shirt, overalls, and dark dress jacket, waved to the crowd lined up in Morgan-Smith Parking Lot as the float prepared to head toward the Columbia Square. The church Teen Group did the float, musicians played and the choir sang so that you felt you'd been to a "Bluegrass Christmas" church service. - Linda Waggener

ACHS Marching Band in Christmas in Columbia parade

The award winning Adair County High School Marching Band gave the heartbeat to the parade with the drum section keeping everyone on track. Then the whole band played as they neared and rounded the public square. Their banner says 21 Championships, however, they just added their 22nd win and have yet to get a new banner printed.

Sue Stivers is Grand Marshall of 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade

The Grand Marshall of the 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade was Sue Stivers, shown here emerging from the lead vehicle to an applauding group of well-wishers. She had been asked to be the GM many times but was unable to accept since she has held the position of Chamber of Commerce president then executive director. Having announced her retirement from that position, she was able to say "yes". To her left is her Lindsey Wilson Bonner Scholar assistant Jakob Beckley.

Salvation Army fundraising helped by Kemp family

During the morning hours of Christmas in Columbia, the Salvation Army bell rang non-stop to remind visitors to the booths in the historic courthouse that help is needed. Volunteers here are Jasper Kemp, Jazlyn Kemp and Jagger Kemp.

Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church was winner of Second Place Adair Float in the 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade. The title of their float was "Sights and Sounds of a Kentucky Christmas".

2017 Christmas in Columbia - Damon's CTA 3rd Place Adair Float

Action photos are always tough to get in focus and this one was made tougher because Damon's CTA float was a long semi truck bed filled with young folks and all was in motion going happily around the square after being awarded 3rd Place Adair Float 2017 Christmas in Columbia. 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade: Hutchison-Corbin family

District Judge Michael Loy with his wife Robin and two of their children, J.T. and Ashley, participated in the 2017 Christmas in Columbia parade. The weather outside for this year's parade was the opposite of frightful, as the song goes. In addition to Merry Christmas messages, people often noted how wonderful the weather was for the event, and how just a few years back there was ice and bitter winds on parade night. -- LW
