Elizabeth Anna Bell Denson Emerson, Casey Co. KY (1921-2017)

She was a housewife and a member of the Highway 49 Holiness Church. She was the daughter of the late George Thomas Downs & Rosa Hall Downs, and the widow first of Noah Denson and later Hafford Emerson. She was the matriarch of a very large, respected Casey County, KY family.

Elizabeth Anna Bell Denson Emerson, age 96, of Liberty, KY passed away on Thursday November 23, 2017 at the Liberty Care and Rehabilitation Center, Liberty, KY.

Funeral Services will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel, 149 KY Hwy 42, Liberty, KY. Chaplain Dominic Gordon and Bro. Shirley Denson will officiate. Burial will be in the Tapscott Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT/5pm-9pmET, Saturday November 25, 2017 and after 8amCT/9amET, Sunday November 26, 2017 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born in Liberty, Casey County, KY on February 17, 1921. She was a daughter of the late George Thomas Downs & Rosa Hall Downs. She died Thursday, November 23, 2016, in Liberty, Casey County, KY, at the age of 96 years, nine months, and six days.

She was the widow of Noah Denson and Hafford Emerson.

She was a housewife and a member of the Highway 49 Holiness Church.

Survivors include:
  • Three daughters: Lucille Byrd of Liberty, KY; Geraldine Meeks of Harrodsburg, KY; and Anita Denson of Lexington, KY

  • One son: Shirley and (Phyllis) Denson of Liberty, KY

  • Daughter-in-law: Donna Denson of Liberty, KY

  • Eighteen grandchildren

  • Twenty-nine great gandchildren

  • Several great great grandchildren

  • Two brothers: Alvin Downs of Nicholasville, KY; and Cloyd Downs of Midway, KY

  • Two Sisters: Virginia Smith of Berea, KY; and Ada Gillespie of Georgetown, KY

  • And special caregiver: Deva Poff
Besides her parents and spouses she was preceded in death by two sons: Garland Denson and Lonnie "Gene" Denson; two sisters: Dorothy Brown and Jeanette Devers; and five brothers: Harshall, Walter, Sherrill, George W. and James Downs.
