Mary Frank Mayes, Taylor Co., KY (1923-2017)

She professed faith in Christ at an early age and was the oldest member of Campbellsville Christian Church. She had retired after 32 years as an instructor at Fruit of the Loom. She was actively involved in the Ladies Prayer Group and Harmony Missionary Society. She was an active member of the Homemakers Club and previously volunteered with the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She had also served as an assistant teacher in the Glow Worms Preschool Program. She was the matriarch of an outstanding family, with many direct and step-descendants. She was the daughter of the late John Rice Wolford & Minnie Florence McKenty Wolford, and the widow of William Howard "Bill" Mayes, her husband of 27 years.

Mary Frank Mayes, 94, of Campbellsville, KY, 94, died at 8:36pmET, Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Louisville, KY.

The funeral service will be at 10amCT/11amET, Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Dr. Joel Patton and Rev. Rodney Booe. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, 200 Block W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Mary Frank Mayes of Campbellsville, KY, was the daughter of the late John Rice Wolford & Minnie Florence McKenty Wolford. She was born March 29, 1923, in Taylor County, KY. She died Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 94 years, seven monhts, and 20 days. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and was the oldest member of Campbellsville Christian Church. Mary Frank was actively involved in the Ladies Prayer Group and Harmony Missionary Society. She had also served as an assistant teacher in the Glow Worms Preschool Program.

She was a retired instructor at Fruit of the Loom having been employed there for thirty two years.

She was an active member of the Homemakers Club and previously volunteered with the Taylor Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Mary Frank united in marriage to William Howard "Bill" Mayes September 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1968.

She is survived by:
  • Two daughters and one son: Marcia Shrum and husband, Earl of Paducah, KY; Darlene Netherland, and Howard Mayes, both of Campbellsville, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Ben Netherland and wife, Robyn, Keith Mayes and wife, Carol of Campbellsville, KY; Shanae Thompson and husband, Bobby of Elizabethtown, KY; Rayna McCarty and husband, Rick of Grand Praire, TX; Tara Peffer of Benton, KY; Billy Mayes of LaGrange, KY; and Mandy Workman of Preston, IL

  • Four step-grandchildren: Amanda Bishop and Dennis Davis of Campbellsville, KY; Cheryl Davis of Elizabethtown, KY; and Stephanie Davis of Bowling Green, KY

  • Several great and great-great-grandchildren

  • several nieces and nephews

  • And many other relatives and friends
She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Carlotta Mayes and a granddaughter, Deanna Ramsey and two sisters: Susan Dicken and Olive Crabtree.
