Adair Fiscal Court 14 Nov 2017 - Sleep Inn tax waiver extension

Return to Adair Fiscal Court - 14 Nov 2017 - Complete report index.

By Ed Waggener

An Agenda item to extend the time frame for the tax waiver for Sleep Inn was tabled, though the feeling in the Tuesday, November 14, 2017 was that it would be granted.

The item relates to the initial passage, in 2010, providing tax relief in the approximate amount of $4,500 per year, according to then CJE Ann Melton, for five years.

However, the hotel did not open until December 30, 2016. (Story: Colmbia, KY Sleep Inn Opens 30 Dec 2017) The measure tabled would extend the tax relief for the hotel to allow recovery over tax relief for a full five year period.

The court seemed inclined to provide the extension. Magistrate Sammy Baker noted that the project had been good for the county, that the tax relief was promised, and that the court should honor it, despite the delays in construction.
