International Education Week at Lindsey Wilson College By Travis Smith The LWC International Student Program and the city of Columbia strengthened their ties on Monday when a sign representing the various countries of LWC's international student population was dedicated during a ceremony at the historic Adair County Courthouse. The event (which was made possible by the International Student Program, City of Columbia and the Adair County Chamber of Commerce), was the first event kicking off International Education Week at Lindsey Wilson College. The ceremony included the unveiling of the sign, special Korean dance, a traditional Zambian folk song and speeches by Airada Bricker and Dean Adams. Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dean Adams said, "from now on, anytime we drive around the square, we will be reminded that through our friendship it is indeed a small world." In her address to the city, Airada Bricker, a psychophysiology junior from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, reiterated how Columbia had become a second home to every single international student attending Lindsey Wilson College. "Home is a place where relationships are felt, and we've become brothers and sisters with one another," said Bricker. "On behalf of the international students, no matter where we are from, Lindsey Wilson College and the town of Columbia will always hold a special place in our heart. You don't have to look far to find the world. We have the whole world here in the small town of Columbia." Director of the International Student Program Sabine Eastham said that the sign will adapt and always reflect the countries of LWC international students enrolled at the college. "We will add countries to the sign as international students enter Lindsey," said Eastham. "It will always be an accurate display of the countries represented at Lindsey during any given academic year." Eastham said that the project would not have been possible without everyone working together. "I'm speechless, It means so much how everyone came together," said Eastham. 'The chamber of commerce, the Ag and Art Department at Adair Co. High School(who created the sign), the fiscal court who approved it to be here, the county who dug the hole, everybody came together. It's a small world afterall , Columbia is embracing international students.
