LWC volleyball travels to Missouri Baptist for top-10 matchup

The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team takes on No. 10-ranked Missouri Baptist on Friday at 6pmCT at Rend Lake College, 468 Ken Gray Pkwy, Ina, Illinois.

The Blue Raiders (18-0) defeated swept No. 17 Georgetown (Ky.) 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-16) on Tuesday for their 17th sweep in their last 18 matches. Lindsey Wilson hit .347 and limited the Tigers to a season-low .058 hitting percentage. The Blue Raiders tallied 45 kills in the match and committed just 10 errors.


Paulina Sobolewska led the way with 14 kills recording double-digit kills for a team-leading 11th time this season. Elly Burke also recorded double-digit kills with 10 and led the team in attacking percentage hitting a career-high .714. Makenzie Montano recorded a match-high 36 assists while Caitlyn Tino led the way with 16 digs. Montano and Madison Molitor recorded four block assists apiece while Grace Blomstedt and Yeniffer Ramirez each had three.

The Blue Raiders rank second in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.356), sixth in kills per game ( 14.3) and 19th in blocks per game (2.3). Montano ranks sixth in assists per game with 11 and Sobolewska's .336 hitting percentage ranks 19th.

The Spartans (20-4) suffered a 3-1 setback on the road against No. 13 Columbia (Mo.) on Tuesday. Missouri Baptist hit just .164 over the match. Marion Couraud recorded a team-high 13 kills followed by Caterina Cigarini with eight. Rachel Poole finished with 27 assists.

Missouri Baptist ranks No. 2 in the NAIA in total kills (1,198) and assists (1,113), and are ranked No. 16 in hitting percentage (.246) and total blocks (170). Couraud ranks second in total kills (330), Cigarini is ninth in hitting percentage (.381), Poole ranks 10th in assists (840) and 15th in assists per game (10.5).

Tonight's matchup is the seventh meeting between the two schools with Lindsey Wilson holding a 4-2 edge in the series. Last season, the Blue Raiders won both matchups against the Spartans including a 3-1 victory in the NAIA National Championship First Round. Three Blue Raiders had at least 13 kills in the match with Blomstedt leading the way with 19 followed by Burke with 17. Montano matched a career-high in assists with 59.
