In honor of October being designated Family History Month, the Adair Genealogical Society will be presenting the 11th annual Silent City Tour 2017.

Please join us Monday, October 2, 2017, at 5pmCT, at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, for an evening of historical and genealogical exploration as some of our members portray historical Adair Countians, including: Judge Rollin T. Hurt, Anna Gupton Beard, Minnie Triplett, William Stewart, Nathan B. Kelsay, and Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Miller.

These individuals will be brought to life by presenters Laura Gupton, LeeAnn Jessee, Mike Watson, Murrell Burton, Richard Phelps, and J.D. and Ellen Zornes. We will be departing the library at 5pmCT and walking to the Columbia City Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. [If mobility is an issue, you may wish to park behind the Adair County Justice Center, 201 Campbellsville, KY or at the cemetery for ease in access.] Refreshments will be served at the library following the presentations. Silent City 2017 will have first-time re-enactor: Murrell Burton

2017-09-22 - Burton Real Estate, 408 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Murrell Burton says that he's a happy man, in no need of additional fulfilling enterprises. "I like to do a little appraising, sell some real estate, and do a little auctioneering," he says modestly. And he does a lot of what he calls 'a little.' There are a great many other facets of his life that come to mind for which he has fame. He's a historian and he's a performer and he's a singer and a Tennessee Ernie Ford look-alike. Come's naturally, then that he would be added to the cast of re-enactors for Silent City 2017, as Judge Rollin T. Hurt. The 11th Silent City starts at 5pmCT, Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, and is performed after a short three block walk to the Columbia Cemetery, 307 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Other re-enactors this year are Laura Gupton, LeeAnn Jessee, Mike Watson, Murrell Burton, Mr. Richard Phelps, and J.D. & Ellen Zornes. It promises, as in the 10 previous Silent City presentations, to be a wonderful occasion. - EW.
