She was the matriarch of a highly regarded Gradyville, KY family. She was the daughter of the late Bill & Florence Scott Wilson and the widow of Kalup Burris. She leaves three direct living descendants.

Gertrude Burris, 79, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 7:15pmCT, at Signature Healthcare at Summit Manor in Columbia, KY.

Funeral service will be Monday, July 31, 2017 at 12pmNoonCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Rick Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home.

She was born January 28, 1938, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Bill & Florence Scott Wilson. She died Thursday, July 27, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years, five months, and 29 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kalup Burris; two sons, Mike Lee and Lewis Dale Burris; two grandchildren, Mindy Kay and Angela Ann Burris; and a sister, Stella Parson.

Survivors include:
  • Two sons and two daughters-in-law: Travis Burris, and Danny and Debbie Burris and Sherry Burris all of Columbia, KY

  • One granddaughter: Sara Burris

  • One sister: Emma Rodgers of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
