Doug McCammish: Working together is what makes MSI great

Engineers and artisans at Columbia facility not only do precise work of great beauty and utility, they also make sure that what they design can actually be made out of wood!

Steve is correct, of course - the engineers do have to consider how they are going to design very large pieces of furniture (think of a whole judge's bench with witness stand and clerk's desk that might be 30 feet long) so that they can not only be disassembled and reassembled in the courtroom, but will fit that courtroom precisely.

More exciting even than that though is how the engineers work with Steve Hancock, Maxie Hadley and many others in the shop to make sure that what they design can actually be built out of wood!

That working together is what makes the MSI shop in Columbia great, in my opinion. (By the way, these folks work to at least millimeter precision - about 4/100ths of an inch - and sometimes half that.) --Doug McCammish
