Magistrate Baker reminds farmers of Invasive Plant Day at HGR

Program today will focus on eliminating most threatening invasive plants - particularly Poison Hemlock - and will include guided tours of invasive plants found at Homeplace on Green River, and, as a bonus, local foresters will be on site to answer questions about Forest Management, HGR President Billy Joe Fudge says.

Third District Magistrate Sammy Baker reminded those present at Tuesday's fiscal court session to spread the word of the "Invasive Plant Day," at Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, Columbia, KY, today, at 9am-11amCT/10am-12pmNoonET, Wed 14 Jun 2017.

The program will include tackling the exploding problem Poison Hemlock proliferation, and longterm unwanted species such as nodding thistle, and other plants harmful to the environment.

Mr. Baker said that the presenter, Nick Roy, is the best county agent in the state. He urged all farmers to be in attendance. Mr. Roy is Adair County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources.


Billy Joe Fudge, President of Homeplace on Green River, said today, 14 Jun 2017, that the program today will include informational talks on invasive plants, answers to What are invasive plants and how they impact natural areas, ways to identify local invasive plants, and management and cost share options.

There will be a guided hike and field tour of invasive plants found at Homeplace on Green River. In addition, there will be local foresters on hand to answer questions on forest management.
