She attended the Bloomington Chapel Church and was a homemaker. She was the matriarch of a large, respected Adair Co., KY family. She was the daughter of the late Russell & Ruby Bean Bowen. She leaves 16 direct living descendants.

Betty Simpson, age 79 of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 at 4:43amCT, at her home after several months illness.

Funeral service: Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1267 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. The family request visitation after 4:30pmCT, on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Betty Simpson, 79, Adair Co., KY/Cumberland Co., KY native (1938-2017)


She was born February 7, 1938 in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Russell & Ruby Bean Bowen. She died Monday, May 22, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years, three months, and 15 days.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son Robert Simpson on October 18, 1998 and one grandchild Gracie Lee Doyle.

She is survived by:
  • Three sons: Ricky (June) Simpson of Columbia, KY; Stevie (Beverly Curry) Simpson of Russell Springs, KY; and Terry (Mary Ellen) Simpson of Columbia, KY.

  • Two daughters: Carol (Jim) Doyle of Columbia, KY; and Patricia McClister of Columbia, KY.

  • One brother: Bobby Bowen of Florida

  • Nine grandchildren: Bradley Burton, Tracey Simpson, Leah Simpson, Jessica Simpson, Britney Bunch, Taylor Bunch, Hannah Antle, Jered Giles and Cody Giles

  • Two great-grandchildren: Braylee Corbin, Kenidee Burton.
Betty attended the Bloomington Chapel Church and was a homemaker.
