She was a member of the Savoyard Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late William & Ruth Ferguson Poynter and the widow of Earl Coomer. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Barbara Jean Coomer age 83 of Knob Lick passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Signature Health Care in Horse Cave, KY.

Funeral services will be held 2pmCT, Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Savoyard Baptist Church with burial in the Jeffries Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm until 8pmCT, Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, and after 9amCT, Sunday at the church.



Barbara Jean Coomer, 83, Metcalfe Co., KY (1934-2017)


She was the daughter of the late William & Ruth Ferguson Poynter. She was born March 17, 1934. She died Thursday, April 6, 2017, in Horse Cave, Hart County, KY, at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 20 days.

Barbara was a member of the Savoyard Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by:
  • Two sons: Kevin and wife Phyllis Coomer and Keith Coomer all of Savoyard, KY

  • One brother: Mike Poynter of Attica, IN

  • Six sisters: Carolyn Poynter of Champaign, IL; Ramona Martin of Lafayette, IN; Betty Frank of Lafayette, IN; Loretta Snider of Lafayette, IN; and Alma Pulliam of Edmonton, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Cory (Christina) Coomer of Savoyard, KY; Chris and Lindsey Coomer of Knob Lick, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Jase and Ella Rose Coomer
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Coomer; a son, Timmy Coomer; three brothers, James, Coy and Buddy Poynter; two sisters, Naomi Simmons Bennett and Beatrice Davis; and a great grandson, Myles Stanley Coomer.
