Afrikania Cultural Troupe to perform in Somerset, KY By Allison Horseman, Somerset Community College SOMERSET, KY. - Gideon Alorwoyie and the Afrikania Cultural Troupe of Ghana, will perform at 5pmCT/6pmET, April 10, 2017, in the Harold Rogers Student Commons Community Room, SCC Somerset North Campus, 808 Monticello Street (campus, not venue), extra time may be), Somerset, KY. Admission is free and open to the public. SCC and the Watershed Arts Alliance are sponsoring the event. The Afrikania Cultural Troupe is based in Anlo Afiadenyegba and features Togbui Midawo Gideon Foli Alorwoyie, a chief master drummer. Formed in 1999 under the leadership of Albert Alaska Azameti, the group is fully dedicated to the preservation of ritual music and dance as well as the general culture of Ewe, Anlo speaking people of Ghana. Under the coordination of George Dzikunu, an accomplished performer and former director of the Adzido Pan African Dance Ensemble, the Afrikania Cultural Troupe has held diverse workshops and training programs in traditional music and dance for foreign students and teachers from several countries. "This is the third year we have had the pleasure of hosting the Afrikania Cultural Troupe on campus," said Elaine Wilson, director of cultural diversity at SCC. "It is truly an unforgettable experience. People dance, move, sing, clap and thoroughly enjoy learning about Gideon and his culture. Everyone will enjoy this free program."
