By Wes Feese Media Relations, Adair County Schools It took three overtime periods but the Adair County Lady Indians finally emerged victorious Tuesday night in a thrilling opening-round contest in the 20th District Tournament. Facing off against Campbellsville, Adair struggled with its shooting touch for most of the game but stayed competitive with strong efforts on defense and the glass, escaping with the win by the narrowest of margins, 57-56. "Both teams played with so much heart and so much effort," says Asst. Coach Amanda McCloud, who led the squad in James Turner's absence. "We played good defense and really stuck to the game plan. You couldn't ask for anything more." Despite facing deficits in each overtime, the Lady Indians never buckled under the pressure. Sophomore point guard Ashley Owens scored 12 of her game-high 29 points in the three extra periods, including the go-ahead bucket with only seconds to play. Campbellsville, down a single point, had the ball with six seconds left and a chance to win, but Lexi Feese stole the inbound pass to seal the game and send Adair County to the district title game Friday night, clinching a berth in the 5th Region tournament in the process. "What I was most proud of was how we played together," McCloud says. "They never gave up and never got down on themselves." Owens was joined in double figures by Adair County's only senior, Katherine Curry, who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Feese chipped in seven points, and Rachel Parrish added four. Kyla Kessler's only points of the game came on a huge fourth-quarter three, but the junior made her biggest impact on the other end of the court, swarming the Lady Eagle guards and forcing turnovers before she eventually fouled out.
