Mrs. Shirley Jean Whitlow Elkins, 69, of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.

The funeral services for Mrs. Shirley Jean Whitlow Elkins will be conducted at 11amCT, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Holly Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Holly Grove Cemetery, with Bro. Leslie Jewell and Bro. Dennis Penick officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pm until 8pmCT, Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, and from 7am until 8amCT, Thursday morning at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 9amCT, Thursday at the Holly Grove Baptist Church until time of the funeral service.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Whitlow Elkins of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Arvin Whitlow and Dorothy Cantrell Whitlow, was born on August 1, 1947 in Green County, Kentucky and departed this life on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 69 years, six months, and four days of age.

Mrs. Shirley Jean Whitlow Elkins of Greensburg, Green County, KY, daughter of the late Arvin Whitlow and Dorothy Cantrell Whitlow, was born on August 1, 1947 in Green County, KY and departed this life on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. She was 69 years, six months, and four days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church where she played the piano. She was a homemaker, a wonderful "Memaw", and animal lover, who loved quilting, singing and playing the piano.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Elmer "Junior" Elkins, Jr. of Greensburg, KY, having united in marriage on September 10, 1965.

Other survivors include:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Danny and Megan Elkins of Greensburg, KY

  • Two daughters and sons-in-law: Angie and Troy Houk and Marla and Troy Durrett all of Greensburg, KY

  • Seven grandchildren: Tanner Durrett and his wife, Lauren of Greensburg, KY; Hunter Marsh of Louisville, KY; Hannah Houk, Gannen Durrett, Kelby Houk, Hayden Elkins, and Addison Elkins all of Greensburg, KY

  • Two great-grandchildren: Evelyn Shea "Evie" Durrett and Indi Ray Durrett both of Greensburg, KY

  • A brother: Bobby Whitlow of Owensboro, KY

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Elkins was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Charity Elkins on May 3, 1996 and Christian Elkins on April 29, 1996.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Holly Grove Cemetery Fund which can be made at the funeral home or church.
