LWC tennis opens up 2017 season Friday By Anthony Latessa The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's tennis teams open up the 2017 season in Richmond, Kentucky on Friday. The men's team faces Eastern Kentucky at 12 pmCT at the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The women's team takes on Western Carolina at 4pmCT at the Greg Adams Tennis Center, 521 Lancaster Ave., Richmond, KY. The No. 8-ranked men's tennis team advanced to the NAIA National Semifinals last season. The Blue Raiders won their 12th regular season Mid-South Conference regular season championship in 13 years and also won the MSC Tournament. Lindsey Wilson returns two NAIA All-Americans. Denis Porcic was a First Team NAIA All-American and was also the MSC Player of the year. Alonso Tellez earned Second Team honors. Tellez was also a First Team All MSC Selection and Tomas Depiaggio earned Second Team All MSC honors. The Colonels (0-2) last competed on Jan. 16 against Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky dropped the match 7-0. Today is the sixth matchup between the two schools. The Colonels hold a 5-0 advantage in the series. Last season, Lindsey Wilson was defeated 7-0. The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's team advanced to the NAIA National Finals. The Blue Raiders won both the MSC regular season and MSC Tournament championships. Lindsey Wilson returns four All Mid-South Conference selections. Alex Shchipakina and Fiona Curty were First Team All-MSC, Shchipakina was also named MSC Freshman of the year. Gabriella Pedroza and Maria Prados Cid earned Second Team All-MSC honors. This is also the first match of the season for Western Carolina. Last season the Catamounts went 12-11 losing in the Southern Conference Championship Quarterfinals to Furman (S.C.) Today's matchup is the first meeting between the two schools.
