Dr. Yolande Ann Marie Wittamer Oostens, 78, Adair Co., KY (1938-2017)

She was a native of Etterbeck, Belgium, and made her home in Columbia, KY, for the past several decades. She graduated from the University of Louvain in Belgium with a PhD, was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, a strong supporter of the Agape House and was known for visiting the nursing homes and shut-ins in the area. She was a widely respected author, whose scholarly books include Horta in America 1916-1918 and the beautifully illustrated Horta, L'Hotel Solvay Her husband, Dr. Jean Oostens, Columbia, KY, survives.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 9amCT, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1217 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Nicholas Brown officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation 5pm-7pmCT, Wednesday, January 4, 2016, with a Prayer Vigil at 7pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation continues after after 8amCT, Thursday at the church

She was born August 28, 1938, in Etterbeck, Belgium, to the late Louis and Berthe De Camps Wittamer. She died Monday, January 2, 2017, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 5 days.

She graduated from the University of Louvain in Belgium with a PhD, was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, a strong supporter of the Agape House and was known for visiting the nursing homes and shut-ins in the area.

Survivors include:<
  • Her husband: Dr. Jean Oostens of Columbia

  • One brother: Michael Wittamer of Belgium

  • One nephew: Alexander Wittamer of Belgium

  • Several friends in Columbia and surrounding counties
