LWC Athletics supports Operation Christmas Child By Chris Wells Lindsey Wilson College athletics joined other organizations on campus to provide a little Christmas cheer this November during its annual support of Operation Christmas Child. LWC athletic department personnel along with student-athletes from every team collected small toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items and filled 706 shoeboxes for distribution to children in developing countries during the Christmas season. Many of the shoeboxes also included notes and letters from Lindsey Wilson student-athletes. "Our student-athletes are instrumental in our outreach program within the Adair County-Columbia community," Lindsey Wilson athletic director Willis Pooler said. "Operation Christmas Child provides them a vehicle to go outside this community and make an impact on a global scale. "Their involvement with Operation Christmas Child gives them an opportunity to bring smiles to the faces of children all over the world." Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse International Relief, began a global Christmas gift exchange in 1993. The mission of the project is "to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world." Each November, Operation Christmas Child opens locations worldwide to collect shoeboxes for underprivileged children during the holiday season. Since its inception, Operations Christmas Child has collected and given over 100 million shoeboxes to children around the world.
