LWC's Pahkasalo repeats as MSC Player of the Year

Six Blue Raiders earn all-conference team honors

BOWLING GREEN, KY - For the second season in a row, Aleksi Pahksalo is the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Year, the conference office announced on Thursday evening, November 3, 2016, at the MSC Awards Banquet held at the National Corvette Museum.

He earns the eighth MSC Player of the Year honor in program history and becomes just the second Blue Raider to collect the honor twice in a career, along with former student-athlete Bonivenger Misiko (2005, 2007).



Pahkasalo leads the conference in points per game (3.83), points (46), goals per game (1.67), goals (20), shots per game (5.50) and shots on goal per game (2.92). His goals per game and points per game are the most in the NAIA this season while his 20 goals are the fifth-most in the nation.

The senior midfielder from Vantaa, Finland also collected MSC Player of the Year honors in 2015. He earns First Team All Mid-South Conference honors for the third-straight season.

Along with Pahkasalo, Moustapha Fofana, Yuta Yamamoto, Mutaya Mwape and Andrew Revanales each earned First Team All-MSC selections.

Fofana has started 13 games for the Blue Raiders, tallying two goals and a pair of assists from his defender position. He has helped anchor a back line that has conceded just 19 goals this season. This is his first all-conference honor.

Yamamoto earns his second-straight MSC First Team selection. The sophomore defender is the lone field player to have started all 16 games this season for Lindsey Wilson. Yamamoto has one goal this year, a game-winner in double overtime, while anchoring a back line that has recorded 10 shutouts, the eighth-most in the NAIA.

Mwape has made 13 starts and scored eight goals, the third most on the team, and served up seven assists, the second most on the squad. The freshman earns his first, First Team honor.

Revanales has appeared in 15 games this year making 14 starts. He is second on the team with 18 goals and tied for the team lead in assists with nine, which also leads the conference. He averages 3.0 points per game, which is the fourth most in the NAIA. The junior forward ranks second in the conference behind Pahkasalo in points per game, points, goals per game, goals, shots per game and shots on goal per game.

Stephane Dasse and Brian Richards were both named to the Second Team All-MSC.

Dasse has collected one goal and one assist in his 12 starts this season. He has been pivotal in his defensive midfield role in helping the Blue Raiders to 10 shutouts this year. This is the first all-conference honor for Dasse.

Richards is tied for the team lead and conference lead with nine assists this season. He has made 13 starts and added four goals for the Blue Raiders. Richards earns his first career all-conference honor in his first season at Lindsey Wilson.

Campbellsville's (Ky.) Ignacio Mangada, Adam Smith and Matt Farthing were named Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year and the Champions of Character award recipient, respectively.

The Blue Raiders finished the regular season with a 11-4-1 overall and 6-0-1 conference mark, sharing the MSC regular season title with Campbellsville.
