LWC Women's Swimming wins five events

By Charlie Balcom

The Lindsey Wilson women's swim team earned their first dual win of the season on Saturday as the Blue Raiders took down West Virginia Tech 110-79 at the Holloway Center Natatorium.

Lindsey Wilson won five of the 11 events on the day and added five runner-up finishes.

The Blue Raiders started the dual meet in style, with a come-from-behind victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Sarah Hahn, Kylie Gehefer, Courtney Fleeger and Bailey Seitz teamed up for a national "A" cut time of four minutes and 26.19 seconds to win the event. After trailing the majority of the race, Fleeger closed the gap during the third leg and Seitz used her powerful kicks on her turns to take the lead and help cap off the comeback, eventually winning the race by just under a second.

Jessica Macdonald secured the first individual LWC win of the day after she won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.32, securing a national "A" standard time in the process.

Ines Khiyara followed a short time later with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, winning with an "A" cut time of 2:15.92.

Emily Wood got on the board with a win in the 500-yard freestyle. She owned the event, winning by over 15 seconds with a "B" cut time of 5:34.20.

The final victory of the day came in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Seitz, Wood, Macdonald and Khiyara teamed up to win with an "A" cut time of 3:20.81, four seconds better than the runner-up.

The five runner-up finishes all came from individual events. Wood took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, Seitz in the 50-yard freestyle, Fleeger in the 100-yard butterfly, Hahn in the 100-yard backstroke and Khiyara in the 100-yard breaststroke, doing so with an "A" cut time of 1:10.61.
