He was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Jefferson County School System. He was a native of Marion County, KY, and a resident of Taylor County at the time of his death. He was the son of hte late John Henry Newton & Bessie Irene Colvin Newton. He leaves six direct and eight step living descendants

Lonzie Gerald Newton, 76, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 2:21amET, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Campbellsville.

The funeral service will be at 1pmCT/2pmET, Friday, October 14, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Dannie Nelson. Burial will be Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, 700 Old US 68, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation is 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Lonzie Gerald Newton was the son of the late John Henry Newton and Bessie Irene Colvin Newton. He was born February 26, 1940, in Marion County, KY. He died at Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Campbellsville, Taylor County, KY, at the age of 76 years, seven months, and 16 days.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church.

He was a retired maintenance employee with the Jefferson County School System.

He united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Smothers February 6, 1987.

Besides his wife, Dorothy Jean Newton of Campbellsville, he is survived by the following:
  • One son and one daughter: Lou Smith and husband, Scotty and Jerry Newton, all of Louisville, KY

  • Two step-children: Dewayne Wilson and friend, Terry Lile and Cathy Wilson of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Brandon Smith and Megan Smith of Louisville, KY

  • Two step-grandchildren: Jessica Loveland and husband, Calvin of Campbellsville, KY; and Malissa Clemons and husband, Nathan of Russellville, KY

  • Two great-grandchildren: Hunter Cole Smith of Louisville and Chloe Clemons of Russellville, KY

  • Four step-great-grandchildren: Kayla Loveland of Bloomfield, KY; Jamie Loveland and Jakob Loveland of Campbellsville, KY; and Dylan Loveland of Springfield, KY

  • Two brothers: Dallas Newton and wife, Hazel of Shepherdsville, KY; and Bill Newton and wife, Jane of Redfield, SD

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • And many other relatives and friends
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Henry Newton, Ansel Newton, Ruth Vanardsdale and Shirley Heistand.
