CU women's golf breaks into Top 10

Kansas City, MO - For the first time in program history, Lady Tiger golf has jumped inside the NAIA Coaches' Poll Top 10 ranking, officials announced on Friday.

Campbellsville earned 364 voting points from the national raters and made the jump from 17th to No. 8 in the first regular season poll. The No. 8 ranking is the highest in program history.


The Lady Tigers have started out hot in the fall season, finishing with a pair of runner-up finishes at the Bill Sergent Invitational and Mid-South Conference Fall Championship, and a third-place finish at the SCAD Fall Invite.

Campbellsville is one of three Mid-South Conference teams inside the Top 25 poll, as University of the Cumberlands moved from 5th to No. 3 with 455 points. Cumberland University made the jump to tied for 24th this week after not being ranked in the preseason poll on Aug. 26.

Lindsey Wilson is just outside the poll at No. 28 and received 60 voting points.

Keiser University is ranked in the top spot for the third-straight poll after earning 10 first -lace votes. Last season, Keiser was ranked in the Top 2 the entire year, and has continued that streak into the first regular-season poll of 2016.

No. 2 SCAD Atlanta moved up seven spots and received the other eight first-place votes. Cumberlands slid up to spots with 455 points, while SCAD Savannah dropped from third to fourth with 448 points. Rounding out the Top 5 is Oklahoma City with 427 points.

Three teams had major positive movement this week with No. 13 Faulkner University leading the way after jumping up 10 spots. The eighth-ranked Lady Tigers were not far behind as it moved up nine spots, and No. 2 SCAD Atlanta also made positive movements from No. 9 in the previous poll.

The Lady Tigers will two weeks to prepare for the Thomas University Invitational in Valdosta, Ga. The two-round tournament tees off on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 17-18.
