REUNION 2016 - ACHS Class of 1972 'Rocks Adair County' Sheila Grant Neat is sure the group reached their goal, to hold the largest class reunion ever in Adair County, KY at their 44th Class Reunion, September 24, 2016, held at Turkey Trot Farms, catered by Long Hunters in Greensburg, with Doyle Lloyd the reunion photographer. Click on headline for story with Doyle Lloyd - maybe other - photo(s) By Sheila Grant Neat We stepped out on faith and decided that we were going to have the largest Reunion ever in Adair County and I think we reached our goal. I had jokingly said we were going to rock Adair County and I think we did. We filled up the Bed and Breakfast Inn and all the cabin on the property and several rooms around town. We had 115 in attendance Saturday Night and it was awesome if I may say so. I started working on this over a year ago and set up a website for ACHS 1972 Classmates and begin to search and by the end of the year we were able to find 69 on face book and with the help of friends we begin to find the rest of our classmates. I discovered that over the course of 44 years our friends had spread there wings and had scattered all over the United States. Twenty five of our classmates now live in Sixteen different states. As I begin to talk to them they all wanted to come. From California to Virginia to New Hampshire to Florida. I heard them say.." Yes, Count me in I'll be there! The excitement of us all getting together again grew. Phone calls were made and I knew they were ready to do this. It had been 14 years since we had had a reunion and we had lost 26 fellow classmates already and no one wanted to miss this one. Many had never been to a reunion so it was important for them to be here and be included. The next question was "where do we have it?" It had to be in Adair County or hoped for it to be close...where would be the ideal place to gather? We checked out several places and they were beautiful but they were not in Adair Co. I wanted it to be were our roots begin and continued looking. A friend (Mr. Charles Grimsley) had told me about a place called Turkey Trot Farms. I was a little skeptical of something that had to do with a turkey hunting lodge but decided to go check it out. As we drove up the little road to get there... I was thinking are you kidding me...suddenly there were big gates with beautiful wreaths hanging from them. A gated farm...hmmm. Still a little concerned the gates opened and the further we drove the prettier it was. There it was a barn fully landscaped outside with stone walkways and beautiful mums planted all over the grounds... on the hill were beautiful cabins nestled in the woods. I couldn't wait to go check it out. I met Mrs. Judy Duvall and she begin to show me around. The cabins looked like something you would see in Gatlinburg, TN with a view just as grand and then we proceeded to the Barn. I walked in and I knew instantly that I had finally found the place we would meet. It was breath taking and I was looking for the "WOW" effect and here it was right in the middle of nowhere and best of all in Adair County. I knew this was it...plenty of gathering places to sit and talk and catch up. Mrs. Duvall told me she only had the one date open the following year because of a cancellation and the rest were booked. She was a little hesitant because she couldn't image a reunion this large and she asked me if I was sure, that most reunions only had 25 to 35 people. I said we're going to break that record... I could tell she was thinking yeah right and she said if you don't, there is no refund but you can postponed to another date if you can't get enough people...I laughed and said they'll be here. So that very day the date was ours and we were going to have a party at "A Barn Affair". I prayed that all who said they would come would truly do just that. I begin to put my invitation together and wanted to make sure even the invitations would be something they could keep and remember this special day by. I knew it had to have an Indian on it since we were the Adair County Indians. They had just come out with the Elvis stamps and how perfect for the occasion. Even that was a challenge, when I went to post office and told them how many I needed they begin to look. They didn't have enough and so he went to get the manager. I knew I had to have one for every envelope. The manager said hold on I have more in the Vault. I laughed and said okay. He was gone a little while (and I was whispering a little prayer under my breath, please Lord let him find enough) and also thinking they are keeping Elvis in a Vault...I laughed and chuckled and thought how special is this. So he walked out with a hand full and I gathered up my treasurers and guarded them with my life...LOL The next step was to find a caterer that was willing to come out and caterer this event. I didn't want to have to worry about doing anything because I wanted to visit with my friends as well. My husband drove me around surrounding counties to eat and help me look. What an adventure! It was fun seeing all the different places and what they had to offer...some delicious and some well not so much. Several of these were BBQ but I wasn't sold on us having BBQ. I wanted it to be the WOW effect too. Everyone thought I was crazy. I wanted china and silverware, and crystal...even my hubby was rolling his eyes at times...and then one of my classmates Dr. Max Downey recommended me to try Longhunters Coffee and Tea Company in Greensburg, KY. It was almost the same ...that feeling when we walked in I knew this was going to be the one. So quaint and special. White linens on the tables with fresh flowers..how special was this. It was beautiful. We were greeted with a big smile and she seated us. I had called ahead to meet with the owners and Mrs. Justine Landrum came out and was so gracious to work with me and help me make decisions. She and her husband Mr. William Landrum are the owners. And Yes they did serve with china, silverware and crystal. This was it! We reserved the date and it was ours. It was finished....our my dream was a reality. It was finally time for the big day, people were texting me telling me how excited they were and just couldn't wait to see every....My heart was skipping too. I just couldn't wait to see them either and couldn't wait to see what they thought of the place. I sent lots of pictures of course and they had looked it up on the website..but there's still something magical of just being there. So that's the story of how on September 24, 2016 the Class of 1972 come together once again. I think the pictures attached will tell you the rest of the story. This evening will be treasured and remembered for a long time. My work is done. With lots of help from my classroom WE ROCKED IT!!! Love and Best Wishes fellow classmates. I love you guys and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your help. I couldn't have done it without your help, love and support. Sheila Grant Neat September 28, 2016 We had several classmates that were not able to be there because of sickness and a death in the family and I want to mention them because I know they were there in spirit.
