She was business leader, a long time owner & operator of Bernard Florist and was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell Springs. She was the daughter of the late Frank & Ila Emerson Lawless. She was the widow of Edward Bernard. She leaves 13 direct living descendants.

Willodene Bernard, 81, of Russell Springs, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Russell County Hospital Hospice Unit, Russell Springs, KY. Funeral service for Willodene Bernard will be 10amCT, Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Jeff Griffin officiating. Visitation will be 5pm-8pmCT, Thursday, September 29, 2016. Interment will be in the Lucenda Cemetery. Special Music will be by Steve Stapp.

She was born December 21, 1934 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Frank & Ila Emerson Lawless. She died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 81 years, nine months, and six days.

She was a long time owner & operator of Bernard Florist and was a member of First Baptist Church of Russell Springs.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bernard; a sister, Janit Burchett; and a brother, Michael Lawless.

Survivors include the following:
  • Four daughters: Belinda Doty, Lexington, KY; Deneda (Greg) Grider; Mellina Vaughan, and Anissa (Scott) Hammond, all of Russell Springs, KY

  • Seven grandchildren

  • Two great grandchildren

  • One brother: Bruce Lawless, Russell Springs, KY

  • Five sisters: Georgia Edmonds, Barbara Edmonds, Wanda Brown, Eloise Owens, all of Russell Springs, KY; and Beckie Acey, Somerset, KY
The family requests memorials to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or The Russell County Hospital Foundation. These can be made at the funeral home.
