ACHS Homecoming Week: School Spirit Soars "The whole school culture seems to be in a really good place right now--it's a good feeling." - ACHS Principal Troy Young By Wes Feese Media Relations, Adair County Schools For many in the community that walked the halls of Adair County High School in their youth, the landscape is almost unrecognizable today. There are streamers hanging from the ceiling, decorations all over the walls, and a waterfall beside the lockers. The renovations--which are only temporary, it should be noted--are a result of Spirit Week, the school's five-day pep drive leading up to Friday night's homecoming. The idea to decorate hallways for Spirit Week came directly from the student body. "The students came up with the idea," Pep Club sponsor Teresa Giles says. "Once we gave the okay, they ran with it. You can just look around and see how much they put into it--we're very proud." Each class was given a hallway to make their own, with seniors opting for a superhero theme, juniors turning their hall into a jungle, sophomores going with Candy Land decor, and freshmen choosing a spooky, Halloween motif. No one missed any class to decorate the halls, with students staying after school last Thursday and Friday to decorate. Principal Troy Young says this demonstrates a recent boost in school pride. "The whole school culture seems to be in a really good place right now--it's a good feeling," Young says. "We have great student leaders that are willing to take initiative like this and great teacher leaders that support them." This story was posted on 2016-09-21 05:55:47
