Evelyn Lee, 90, Casey County, KY (1926-2016)

She was the matriarch of a prominent, highly respected Casey County, KY, family. She was a native of Russell County, KY, and a resident of Casey County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Otha Lee Popplewell and Belva Dunbar Popplewell and the widow of Charles Marion Lee. She was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church, where she played the piano and guitar. Evelyn was very independent, she enjoyed yardwork and being with her family and friends.

Evelyn Lee, age 90, of Liberty, KY passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Casey County Hospital.

Funeral services are at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Brother Danny Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 10amCT/11amET, until time of funeral service.



Pallbearers are Archie Adams, Alan Sparr, Lee Murphy, Craig Brown, Kevin Smith and Chad Lee.

Evelyn Lee, 90, Casey County, KY (1926-2016)

Born January 18, 1926 in Russell County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Otha Lee Popplewell and Belva Dunbar Popplewell. She died Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Liberty, Casey County, KY, at the age of 90 years, seven months, and 30 days.

She was a homemaker and a member of Shady Grove Separate Baptist Church, where she played the piano and guitar. Evelyn was very independent, she enjoyed yardwork and being with her family and friends.

Survivors include:
  • One son: Mike Lee of Liberty, KY

  • One daughter: Pat (and P.D.) Depp of Dunnville, KY

  • One sister: Dinah Thomas Hurt of Georgetown, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Gina Smith, Chad Lee and Jenny Brown

  • six great grandchildren

  • Special daughter-in-law: Linda Lee.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Marion Lee, who passed away February 2, 1998; four brothers, Jack Popplewell, James Elmo "Mose" Popplewell, Roger Popplewell, and Otto Vernon "Red" Popplewell; and a sister, Ninah Dunbar.
