Elizabeth Withers Garner, 95, Russell County, KY (1921-2016)

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Russell Springs, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ovel & Molly Richards Withers. She was the widow of Melvin Ray Garner. She leaves 18 direct living descendants. She loved flowers and loved to compete with her arrangements at the Russell County Fair.

Elizabeth Withers Garner, 95, of Russell Springs, KY, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

Funeral service for Elizabeth Garner will be 1pmCT, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, with Keith Ellis officiating. Visitation 5pm-8pmCT, Saturday and after 11amCT, Sunday. Interment in the Russell Springs City Cemetery. Special Music: Angela Emerson, Alesa Johnson.



Pallbearers: Charles Emerson, Kendall Catron, Stephen Johnson, Philip Garner, Paul Garner, and Brentley Johnson. Honorary Pallbearer: Justin Emerson

Elizabeth Garner, 95, Russell County, KY (1921-2016)

She was born April 25, 1921 in Russell County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ovel & Molly Richards Withers. She died Tuesday, September 13, 2016, in Jamestown, Russell County, KY, at the age of 95 years, four months, and 19 days.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Russell Springs, KY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Ray Garner; a son, Phillip Garner; three brothers, Phillip Withers, Richard "Dick" Withers, and Don Withers; and three sisters: Virginia Grimsley, Velma Mae "Cotton" Heisel, and JoAnn Sullivan

Survivors include:
  • A daughter: Janice (Carldo) Wilson, Russell Springs, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Angela (Charles) Emerson, Russell Springs, KY; Alesa (Stephen) Johnson, Somerset, KY; Phil (Laura) Garner, Georgetown, KY, and Mark Wilson, Russell Springs, KY

  • Ten great grandchildren: Tiffany Catron, Justin Ray Emerson, Ashley Elizabeth Johnson, Brentley Johnson, Philip Garner, Paul Garner, Selena Janes, Brooke Wilson, Jasmine Wilson, and Bryson Burchett

  • Three great great grandchildren: Taylor Catron, Jaylyn Catron, and Keagan Allen

  • Sister: Mollie Stimson, Texas

  • Daughter-in-law: Faye Garner Harris, Houston, TX
The family requests memorials be made to Gideons Memorial Bible Plan or First Baptist Church. These can be made at the funeral home.
