Metcalfe Co. School Bus/Auto fatal collision 8 Sep 2016

Driver of auto which crossed centerline, hit schoolbus head-on, pronounced dead at the scene. Twenty-three passengers on the school bus transported by EMS to TJ Community Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

EDMONTON, KY (Thu 8 Sep 2016) - Detective Logan Richardson is investigating a collision that occurred Thursday at approximately 3:12pmCT on KY 1243, 5 miles north of Edmonton, KY.



31-year-old Alicia G. Thurmond, of Edmonton, was operating a southbound 2007 Chrysler van when she crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2012 school bus head on.

The van left the roadway, overturned and caught fire. Thurmond was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.

The bus, operated by 50-year-old David Holley, of Edmonton, remained on the roadway.

23 passengers on the bus were transported by EMS and private vehicles to TJ Samson Community Hospital for non life threatening injuries. Detective Richardson was assisted at the scene by the Metcalfe County Sheriff's Department, Coroner's Office, Fire, EMS and Rescue.
