A poem, on birthdays and fatherhood

Ponderings of the poet, W.M. Feese, on the occasion of his birthday

I'm fast becoming a relic
Something I wish not to be
Our children now call me their father
Instead of that great word "Daddy"

To refer to me as their father
Seems so inappropriate for me
I'd much rather be back when
Their father was simply daddy

Today I will be seventy-one
An age that used to be old
But now is just a number
In the pages of life that we fold.
