By Chris Wells PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (Tue 23 Aug 2016) -- No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball won its Mid-South Conference opener tonight with a 3-0 win over host Shawnee State (Ohio) at Waller Gymnasium. The Blue Raiders improve to 5-0 on the season with the 25-17, 25-7, 25-10 win. Shawnee State falls 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Mid-South with the loss. The straight-sets win marks the fourth sweep in five matches this season for the Blue Raiders -- who extends their winning streak over MSC teams to 20 matches. Lindsey Wilson -- who never trailed during the match -- used a balanced attack to hit.368 as a team on the night. The Blue Raiders posted a remarkable .700 hitting percentage in the second frame with 14 kills and no errors in 20 attempts in their best hitting set of the season. Yeniffer Ramirez and Carolynne Silva led the Blue Raiders with nine kills each and combined to hit .593 in the match. Madison Molitor chipped in seven spikes while Elly Burke and Eileen Acuna added six kills each. Makenzie Montano produced 33 of the team's 42 assists. As the Blue Raider offense clicked, the Lindsey Wilson defense produced 17 block assists. Burke and Molitor led the team with four each. The Lindsey Wilson block limited Shawnee State to a negative (-.096) attack during the match. The Bears committed 21 errors compared to just 13 kills.
