LWC Volleyball ranked third in preseason poll

By Matt Wurzburger

Lindsey Wilson volleyball is ranked third in the 2016 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top-25 Poll, the NAIA office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders received 555 total points based on a ranking by a panel of head coaches. A first-place vote is worth 30 points, while a second-place vote nets 29 points and so forth down the list.

The Blue Raiders obtained their first-ever No. 1 ranking in school history on Nov. 3, 2015 before concluding the year with a third-place finish in the postseason poll after falling to eventual-champion Columbia (Mo.) in the NAIA national semifinals.

Lindsey Wilson set a new program standard in wins with 37 in 2015 and claimed the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles.

Fellow MSC member Georgetown (Ky.) joins the Blue Raiders in the Top-10. The Tigers were seventh with 463 points. Cumberlands (Ky.) received 13 points and were 10 spots outside the top-25.

Columbia tops the poll with 591 points and all 21 first-place votes. Missouri Baptist is second with 568 points.

Lindsey Wilson is scheduled to face three teams featured in the preseason poll: Indiana Wesleyan, Missouri Baptist and Georgetown.
