CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - David Harrity, assistant professor of English at Campbellsville University's Louisville Education Center, has been selected to receive an Emerging Artist Award in literature from the Kentucky Arts Council.

This award is given to professional artists who create original work and are in the initial ten years of their art career.

"I am quite proud and impressed. CU is very fortunate to have him as part of our team," Dr. Donna Hedgepath, vice president for academic affairs and professor of education, said.

The Emerging Artist Award is granted to artists who demonstrates excellence and creativity in their work.

"Your work ethic and creative talents contribute so much, not only to our mission, but to the experience of students in classroom," Hedgepath said. This honorable award is named after the Arts Council former chair and Kentucky journalist Al Smith, which recognizes professional artists who have reached a high level of achievement in their careers.

The award also includes a $1,000 honorarium.

"I am very proud of the quality of faculty we have in the Humanities Division," Sarah Stafford Sims, chair of the division of humanities and professor of English, said.

Harrity has been a CU LEC employee since 2013. His area of specialty is composition, literary studies, creative writing (poetry), spiritual formation and creativity.

Harrity is from Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Bellarmine University with a Bachelor of Arts in 2005 and a Master of Fine Arts in 2007 from Spalding University.
