Vernon Lee (Pete) McKinney, 80, Adair Co., KY (1935-2016)

Mr. McKinney was a member of the Bearwallow United Methodist Church, a US Army veteran and was retired from General Motors/Electromotive in Chicago, IL. He was a member of a prominent, highly regarded family. He was the son of the late Austin & Cecil Burton McKinney and the brother of Gary and Steve McKinney. He leaves five direct living descendants.

Vernon Lee "Pete" McKinney, 80 of Columbia, KY, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:24amCT, at his home after a long illness.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Glenn LaFond the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with full military honors by VFW Post 6097 The family request visiting after 3pmCT, Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.



Vernon Lee "Pete" McKinney, 80, Adair Co., KY (1935-2016)


He was born November 3, 1935 in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Austin and Cecil Burton McKinney. He died Thursday, July 28, 2016, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 80 years, eight months, and 25 days.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Bobby McKinney; and two sisters Louise McKinney and Allene Holmes.

Pete is survived by the following:
  • One son: Douglas Rex McKinney and wife Susan of Palos Hills, IL

  • One daughter: Tammy Lee McKinney and her husband Michael Nilles of Palos Hills, IL

  • Two brothers: Steve McKinney of Columbia, KY; and Gary McKinney of Jeffersonville, IN

  • Three grandchildren: Austin Lee McKinney, Riley Ann McKinney, and Andrew Douglas McKinney
Mr. McKinney was a member of the Bearwallow United Methodist Church, a US Army veteran and was retired from General Motors/Electromotive in Chicago, IL.
