Bro. Mitchell Reed Jeffries of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY. He was 86 years, one month and 28 days of age.

The funeral services for Bro. Mitchell Reed Jeffries was conducted at 1pmCT, CT, Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Union Chapel Baptist Church with burial to in the Union Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Handley Milby and Bro. Tom Downey officiating. Visitation was requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, Thursday, July 7, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 9amCT, Friday at the Union Chapel Baptist Church until time of the funeral service.



Pallbearers: Clint Wallace, John Jones, Barry Jeffries, Richard Jeffries, Eugene Hatcher, Todd Simpson, and Johnny Simpson.

Honorary pallbearers: Nelson Jeffries, Jimmy Jameson, Bruce Jameson, Frankie Jameson, Robbie Young, Kenny Greer, James Mullin, Wayne Matney, Mike Matney, Benny Grant, and Wendell Pottinger.

Bro. Mitchell Reed Jeffries of Greensburg, Green County, KY, was the son of the late Willie Green Jeffries and Dora Rendy Coomer Jeffries. He was born on May 8, 1930 in Green County, KY and departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY. He was 86 years, one month and 28 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Servant Valley Baptist Church, and attended the Union Chapel Baptist Church. Bro. Jeffries was a minister, a former truck driver for Standard Oil Co., and yard foreman for the former E.J. Milby Builders Supply Co. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Survived by his wife of 61 years, Ora Alice Hedgespeth Jeffries of Greensburg having united in marriage on October 30, 1954.

Other survivors include:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Larry Reed and Bonita Jeffries of Green County, KY

  • Two granddaughters and their spouses: Lora Jo and Clint Wallace, and Tina Michelle and John Jones all of Greensburg, KY

  • Four great-grandchildren: Raelei Wallace, Jade Wallace, William Jones, and Jackson Jones all of Greensburg, KY

  • And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bro. Jeffries was also preceded in death by three children: Connie Sue Jeffries, Bonnie Lou Jeffries, and Michael Jeffries; four sisters: Dorothy Pierce, Cleo Pierce, Roxie Thompson, Helen Creason; two brothers: Olen Jeffries, and Garnett Jeffries.
