By John Mura

FRANKFORT, KY (8 Jul 2016) – Public Service Commission Chairman Michael J. Schmitt and members of commission today announced the appointment of Talina Rose Mathews, Ph.D., of Frankfort, KY, as Executive Director of the Public Service Commission.

"Ms. Mathews’ previous experience with the commission and her strong background in energy policy will make her a great asset to an agency that makes decisions that affect the lives of nearly every Kentuckian," Commission Chairman Schmitt said.

Mathews, who most recently was director of member services and advocacy at the Organization of MISO States, Inc. (OMS), will begin her duties on July 12.

Mathews previously served the Commonwealth in the Department for Energy and Independence as Director of Energy Generation, Transmission and Distribution and Assistant Director of the Carbon Management Division. In addition to those posts, she held positions as Staff Assistant for Policy, Executive Staff Advisor and Economist at the Public Service Commission as well as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Energy Policy.

"I look forward to returning to the Public Service Commission in this new role and working with Chairman Schmitt, Vice Chairman Cicero and Commissioner Logsdon," Matthews said.

She also previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Engineering Consulting Services Inc., in Lexington, KY.

Mathews holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Kentucky and a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Berea College. She has been an adjunct instructor at Eastern Kentucky University and at the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities in Frankfort.
