KU Roundtable consterned over Sigogglin v Cattywampus Gentle scholars of the Knifley University Roundtable nigh to fisticuffs, with natives insisting on Sigogglin, incomers nearly violent in defense of Cattywampus. COF kept neutral, fearing his Wopperjawed nature would draw him into fray Click on headline for complete essay By the COF An article in the current edition of Kentucky Living caused quite a stir at the KU Roundtable. The author was citing some dialectical peculiarities usually heard only in BJ's "Great Wooded South". What caused all the consternation was the preference for "sigogglin" vice-a-versy "cattywampus." Residents were adamant that sigogglin was the correct term (although there was some strong words exchanged over the correct enunciation) while those "from off" {those whose folks didn't lite here until after the Great North/South Conflict) were jest as hard-nosed at insistin' thet cattywampus was the correct professional terminology. The oncet polite discussion almost came to fisticuffs when one resident said only Canadian tourists would say cattywampus and a fella from off replied that those who said sigogglin couldn't design an outhouse iffen they wuz ta be asittin' in one which he implied, sumwhat indelicately, that's where most of them belonged. COF, following Miz Emily's advice fer oncet, kept outta the heat since I'm kinda partial ta "wopperjawed". - COF at Dun Roman High o'er Beautiful Downtown Knifley Where civility ain't always civil.
