LWC Men's Track & Field ties for 11th in NAIA Nationals

Highest finish in program history

By Charles Balcom

GULF SHORES, AL - The Lindsey Wilson men's track & field team finished tied for 11th place at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships on Saturday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

The Blue Raiders collected 26 total team points at the event to tie with Southern Oregon in the final team standings. Lindsey Wilson's 11th-place finish is the highest in program history.

On the day, a pair of Blue Raiders earned individual NAIA All-American honors while the men's 4x100 meter relay team finished as the national runner-up.

Holt Keeling, Dondre Mimms, Kevin Hallmon and Austin Hayes raced their way to a second-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay event with a time of 40.70 seconds. The quarter earned NAIA All-American honors for their efforts, trailing only national champion Indiana Tech who clocked in at 40.17 to win the event. Lindsey Wilson had originally finished third in the race, but the second-place relay team from Wiley (Texas) was disqualified after the event for unsportsmanlike conduct. It marks the first time in Lindsey Wilson men's outdoor history that a relay team has earned All-American honors.

Dante Johnson collected the second NAIA All-American honor of his career in the 400 meter hurdles after finishing third in the event with a time of 52.77 seconds. He finished behind only national champion Ryan Rosenau of Eastern Oregon, who crossed the tape in 51.71 seconds, and Wayland Baptist's (Texas) Joshua Helom at 51.79 seconds. Johnson's time broke his own school record in the event, surpassing his 52.83 seconds he set last season.

Mimms was the final Blue Raider to collect All-American honors after he took fifth place in the 200 meters with a time of 21.02 seconds. Mimms once again broke the school record with his time, doing it for the fourth time this year. It marks the first NAIA All-American honor of his career.

Anthony Thompson was the lone field athlete to compete on Saturday. He managed an 11th-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.29 meters (46-10.75 feet).

Johnson, Mimms, and the relay team join Desmond Mobley and Chanel Roberts as NAIA All-Americans at this year's national championship.
