May is National Stroke Awareness Month The Adair County Health Department commends and recognizes Family First Health Care for being an Outstanding Community Health Partner Click on headline for full story with photo By Jelaine Harlow Family First Health Care in Columbia, KY is making a difference in the health of Adair County. Family First is partnering with the Adair County Health Department to implement the Cardiovascular Assessment Risk Reduction Education Collaborative (CARE), an initiative promoted by the Kentucky Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and Kentucky ranks in the top 10 among all states for both heart disease and stroke. Stroke is preventable; you can take steps to lower your risk by checking your blood pressure, stop using tobacco, get physical activity, eat healthy and lose weight. The goals for Care Collaborative are to provide an educational encounter to individuals age 18 years and above to have their blood pressure measured and state whether it is normal or high, counsel on health behaviors and/or lifestyle changes and increase the number of participants who are taking action to help control their elevated blood pressure by focusing on health behaviors. The Adair County Health Department commends and recognizes Family First Health Care for being an Outstanding Community Health Partner. This story was posted on 2016-05-20 20:38:37
