Report: Special Called School Board Meeting Fri 29 Apr2016 Student expelled for remainder of this year and all of next. Adair County School District will provide services to student during period of expulsion By Ed Waggener From information the Adair County Board of Education The Adair County School Board took disciplinary action involving student #12960, expelling the student for the remainder of the 2015-16 and the 2016-2017 school year, and also voted to provide school service to the student during the period. Proceedings The meeting was called to order at 8amCT by Chairman, Floyd Burton (Div 4). All members , Terry Harvey (1), Quin Lasley (2), Lisa Burton (3), and Mike Harris (5)were present. At 8:01amCT, the board went in to executive session on the motion of Harris, seconded by Lasley, with all members voting to do so. At 8:21 the board returned to open session on motion of Harvey. Harris seconded. Chairman Burton asking Superintend Alan Reed for a recommendation. Reed responded: "Pursuant to K.R.S. 158.150, and Adair County Board of Education policy 9.435, the Board of Education has the power of expulsion over students. The Adair County School System considers the safety of our students the top priority. As such, and in compliance with Board policy and applicable statues, it is my recommendation that the Board expel Student # 12960 for the remainder of the 2015-16 academic year in addition to the 2016-2017 academic year. It is further my recommendation that the school provide services to student #12960 during the period of expulsion."Mike Harris to moved to accept the Superintendent’s recommendation as read. Second by Floyd Burton, There were 5 yes votes. Motion by Harris to adjourn, L. Burton seconded, 5 yes votes. The meeting was adjourned at 8:24amCT. This story was posted on 2016-04-29 08:42:56
