LWC Golf: Men in 2nd place, Women 4th at MSC Tourney

Jonathon Grabara one stroke off lead at MSC Championship Tournament

Bowling Green, KY -- The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team carded an opening round 7-over par 295 on the first day of the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament, held at the Bowling Green Country Club.

The Blue Raiders are seven strokes behind tournament leader Cumberlands (Ky.), who shot an even-par 288. Lindsey Wilson sits one stroke ahead of third-place Cumberland (Tenn.) at the 54-hole event.


Jonathon Grabara carded a 1-under par 71 and is just one stroke behind tournament leader Peyton Broyles of Cumberland. Grabara is in a three-way tie for second place and is one of seven golfers to shoot even-par or better during the first day. After playing the front nine to 1-under, Grabara hit a rough patch to start the back as he bogeyed three of the first four holes. But he finished the round strong as he birdied three of the last five to get back to 1-under. His five birdies tied for the tournament lead.

Two strokes behind Grabara is teammate Chris Butler who carded a 1-over par 73 at the par-72, 6,751-yard course. Butler is in a three-way tie for eighth place. He opened his day with a double bogey, but recorded three-straight birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh to improve to 1-under and finish the front nine at even-par. Butler dropped two strokes with a pair of bogeys on the back nine, but went par-birdie-par to finish his round.

Federico Navarro sits two strokes behind Butler after his 3-over 75 in the opening round in a tie for 14th place. Navarro was one of two players to record an eagle on the day, doing so on the 516 yard, par-5 second. Zach Madewell is one stroke behind Navarro with a 4-over 76 in a tie for 16th. Ryan Nowe completes the five-man team after he carded a 7-over 79 to sit tied for 31st place in the field of 45.

Jordan Hagan, who is competing as an individual at the tournament, also tied for 16th with Madewell with a 4-over par 76. Both Madewell and Hagan finished with 11 pars in the round, the most for Lindsey Wilson.

Women's Team

The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team shot a 41-over par 329 to sit in fourth place following the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament held at the Bowling Green Country Club.

The Blue Raiders are just five strokes behind third-place Pikeville (Ky.), and six strokes off of second-place Campbellsville (Ky.) following the first of three rounds at the championship tournament. Cumberlands (Ky.) leads the field with a 15-over 303 team score.

Courtney Vincent provided the best Lindsey Wilson score on the day with a 7-over 79 at the par-72, 5,929-yard course. She was the lone Blue Raider to card a sub-80 round. Vincent is currently tied for seventh place in the individual standings. She recorded a team-high two birdies, both coming on her first nine holes.

Shayna Cockrill and Kenna Richardson both carded 11-over 83s to sit tied for 17th place. Richardson was 5-over after he first nine holes, but started her final nine with a triple bogey to shoot 6-over on her final nine. Amy Brown shot a 12-over 84 and is tied for 22nd, while Cristina Jimenez is one stroke behind Brown in a tie for 24th place after her 13-over 85. Cockrill and Jimenez both recorded one birdie. Richardson had a team-high 11 pars in the round, followed closely by Brown with 10 and Vincent with nine.

Kayla Cordeiro, who is competing as an individual at the event, carded an 18-over 90 and is in 33rd place in the field of 40.

Cumberlands' Constanze Sieker leads the field after carding a 1-under par 71, the lone round under par on the day. Sieker's teammates Rachel Pingleton and Kaitlyn Riley are tied for second at 4-over.
