JoAnne Smith, 69, Burkesville, KY (1946-2016)

She was a former dispatcher for the City Of Burkesville Police Department. She was a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of Cumberland County, KY at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Luster and Hazel Lacy Furkins, and the widow of Donnie D. Smith. She leaves four direct living descendants. She will be laid to rest in Fudge Cemetery, Adair County, KY

JoAnne Smith, 69, of Burkesville, Kentucky, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at 3:10amCT, at the Clinton County Hospital in Albany, KY.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Charles Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in the in Fudge Cemetery, 847 Independence Ridge Road, Breeding, KY. Visitation will be after 12pmNoonCT, Wednesday at the funeral home.



JoAnne Smith, 69, Burkesville, KY (1946-2016


She was born July 8, 1946, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Luster and Hazel Lacy Furkins. She died Monday, March 28, 2016, in Albany, Clinton County, KY, at the age of 69 years, eight months, and 20 days.

She the widow of Donnie D. Smith, who preceded her in death March 30, 1994. She was a former dispatcher for the City of Burkesville Police Department and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers; Marshall, Bugs, Bob, Kyle and Barry Furkins.

Survivors include:
  • One son: Lucas Smith of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Melissa (Kirk) Melby of Laurel, Montana

  • Two brothers: Harry Furkins of Nashville, Tennessee, Jim Furkins of Bowling Green, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Kyle and Erin Melby

  • Her special friend: Lawrence Vincent and his family of Burkesville, KY
