Lindsey Burd named NAIA Player of the Year By Richard RoBards CU sports information Kansas City, MO - Only three times in Campbellsville University Lady Tiger Basketball history has a player been named the NAIA Player of the Year. Campbellsville's Lindsey Burd became the second Lady Tiger, joining Whitney Ballinger who received the same honor twice (2009-10, 2010-11). The announcement came on Thursday from the NAIA headquarters. "Lindsey Burd is what our team and tradition are all about," said her coach, Ginger Colvin. "She has transformed her game in her four years here by countless hours of hard work and a relentless drive. "I know our conference and nation had incredibly talented players this year. I just can't imagine any player that worked as hard as she did in the offseason and every day in practice. She lived and breathed basketball." Colvin said Burd was undersized for her position, but that you can't measure the size of someone's heart. Burd, who drew double teams all season, owns four Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honors this season and was named 2015-16 Mid-South Conference Co-Player of the Year. Burd ended the season ranked among the top five nationally in total scoring (601) and total rebounds (309). She finished sixth in the nation with 12 double-doubles, 14th nationally in scoring per game (17.1) and 18th in rebounding per game (8.8). She ended her career with 1,381 points and 902 rebounds. "She was an incredible teammate and leader. I couldn't be happier or more proud of her," said Colvin. "The award says a lot about her teammates and the ones that worked beside her in every practice and every game. Her tenacity is one thing that will be hard to replace." During her three games at the national tournament, she scored 57 points, pulled down 29 rebounds, handed out 10 assists and recorded eight steals. In addition, she was named to the NAIA All-Tournament team and also named a First-Team NAIA All-American. "She was an all around player," continued Colvin. "She could score but she rebounded, was a terrific passer and defended. She was valuable to us even if she didn't points." During her career, Burd has been named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team twice and NAIA All-Tournament Honorable Mention Team once. She has been an All-MSC First Team selection twice, and All-MSC Second Team once. She is a three-time All-MSC Academic Team selection.
