LWC holds at third place in Learfield Directors' Cup standings By Charlie Balcom Lindsey Wilson athletics remained in third place in the second winter rankings of the Learfield Directors' Cup standings with 529.50 points, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced on Thursday. The Blue Raiders maintained their hold on the third position after also coming in at No. 3 in the first winter standings released back on March 10. The second winter standings included men's and women's basketball. Lindsey Wilson added 70 points to the overall total after the Blue Raider women's basketball team collected a fifth-place finish at the NAIA Division I National Championships. The 306.5 points gained during the winter season adds to the 223 points collected during the fall for the Blue Raider total. Biola (Calif.) continues to lead the standings with 560 total points, followed by Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in second place at 538, just 8.5 points ahead of Lindsey Wilson. Eight other institutions from the Mid-South Conference are featured in the rankings. Campbellsville (Ky.) jumped up to fifth place after collecting 153 points from their men's and women's basketball teams. Cumberlands (Ky.) is 22nd with 270.5 points, Georgetown (Ky.) is 48th with 163 points, Life (Ga.) is 57th with 135.5 points, Cumberland (Tenn.) is 63rd with 128.5 points, Shawnee State (Ohio) is 72nd with 117.5 points, Pikeville (Ky.) is 77th with 108 points and St. Catharine (Ky.) rounds out the MSC schools in 139th place with 43 points. The MSC is one of three conferences to have two institutions featured in the top 10, and the lone conference to have two in the top five. The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports in the NAIA - six women's and six men's. The next standings will be released Thursday, April 7.
